Madeleine L'Engle would be thrilled over this casting. She was incredibly progressive for her day and wrote at length about the evils of racism.

I've noticed a lot of people complaining about how 'cringy' and 'bad' it looks. Personally I think it looks amazing! I loved the books as a kid, my dad would read them to me all the time along with other books like The Chronicles of Narnia, The Wizard of Oz and The Hobbit. I remember after we read the books and I saw the original movie, it wasn't very good... the movie was clearly on a low budget as the effects were awful, the acting was awful and overall the movie was awful. But so far from what I've seen from this trailer... it looks fantastic! The visuals are stunning, the acting seems half decent, and it looks like the movie is following the story pretty well! I applaud you Disney, now please keep up the great work and make this movie true to the book!

I like how people in the comments are complaining about this movie, I doubt half these people even read the book.

Lmao if you are complaining about the casting you never understood the heart of the author in the first place. Sure no movie will match the imagination but this is a worthy effort

Who else came here for the book

The only thing I maybe worry about is Meg not having braces in the trailer, but to be fair her mouth is never wide enough to actually tell. The hair color is correct, though, she did have glasses and her ethnicity is never exactly stated in the book. They could have made her a little less pretty, but what she considers ugly and what others see as ugly could be argued to be two different things. Also, I think it fits for Mrs. Who, Which, and Whatsit to have the Fairy Godmother look, as it keeps their eccentric nature from the books as well as making them more emphasized. So far, so good, and you better not screw this up, Disney.

Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit. I wonder "which" one Oprah is playing.

They got the identical houses just right. Creepiest part of the book and it's spot on.

Let's take a moment to be grateful that Disney didn't give this to Tim Burton.

To people complaining about the black cast they is 2003 version with an all white cast if you're so bent out of shape go watch that one instead.

To the folks claiming the film won't be "loyal to the book" just because of the character's race - I really think you need to reread the book.

"And the only one who can stop it . . . is you."

I think this is my only issue with the trailer, and potentially the movie: Implying that only Meg herself can stop the Darkness. One of the central themes to A Wrinkle in Time, at least to me, was that we are all fighting against the Darkness, every one of us. And Meg needed everyone--the Mrs. W's, Calvin, Charles Wallace--to save her father, though of course only she could save her brother. It wasn't ever about Meg being able to single-handedly take on the Darkness (though she did a darn fine job with IT).

Otherwise, this looks like a very lovely adaptation and I sure hope it does a better job than its predecessor.

This looks great! I need to read the books again, but I'm really excited for this.

Also to everyone else who's complaining that people have to 'fill their diversity quotas' or 'SJWs have gotten a hold of it', screw off, as many have said before, race was never really specified, and besides, this is based on a *book*. You imagined the characters one way, while someone else imagined them another, unless the author made sure to describe them in full detail, it doesn't matter what race they are. SO CALM DOWN, NO ONE IS MAKING YOU WATCH THIS.
We don't want you anyway.

0:59 - Ava Duvernay a "visionary" director...err yeah okay sure thing.....embarrassing labelling a woman who has directed three feature films a visionary and essentially putting them in the same category as Kubrick, Hitchcock, Scorcese, Anderson, Spielberg, Nolan etc...

I always imagined the characters as white

User Profile

I hit dislike.
Not because of the race change. They could be Asian for all I care.
I disliked it because of the way the trailer is edited together. The echo sound effect, smash cutting to black. It’s too clique for my taste.
But it’s just a trailer. Here’s hopping the movie succeeds both financially and critically.

Anyone who has read the source material knows how abstract and difficult this story is to adapt.

I am extremely excited and amazed at the look and feel of this film.

Those who haven't read the book must hold off judgement until you know what they are trying to portray
