‪The meeting is probably just a dream, because the movie is based on John Guy's biography My Heart Is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots. I don’t think they would mess up such a historic thing. And for the accent, the book says she had a scottish accent. I think we all have to watch the movie before judging it so much :)‬

Wildly and painfully inaccurate.

1. Mary Queen of Scots didn't have a thick Scottish accent. She went to a French court, educated there for 13 years, then went back to Scotland.
2. Men were not the root of Mary's and Elizabeth's strife
3. Mary and Elizabeth never saw each other face to face.
4. There was never a black or person of colour in the Queen's court at that time holding position of great importance, such as an advisor or general.

And in a flash, poof, Margot Robbie became Helena Bonham Carter.

This is really innacurate portrayal of history. There were no Asians or Africans in high positions of power in England during Queen Mary's time

Spoiler;

Mary gets beheaded, and Elisabeth stays queen.

Also both queens never met

I saw this movie, and honestly I don't care about any historical inaccuracies (I know there were several) because it's just such a well-made movie. There were several scenes where I was crying because of just how amazing, well acted, filmed, and put together they were. It's just a well-constructed brilliant movie, and I could just keep talking about all the intricate details.

Honestly, please give it a chance. It's REALLY good. And there were things that were spot-on to, such as when Elisabeth refers to herself as a man. And they also sort-of explain things so they make more sense being there. Like Elisabeth and Mary met up in secret and Elisabeth told Mary she would deny everything.

Despite the star power, this has the makings of an absolute disaster. Apart from the obvious historical inaccuracies, framing Elizabeth and Mary as women shattering the glass ceiling of kingship is silly - powerful women like Queen Isabella and Mary's own mother (Mary of Guise) and mother-in-law (Catherine de Medici) had commanded men and nations before them. Furthermore, Mary's authority never as consolidated as Elizabeth's, due in part to her own incompetence and lack of judgment. Mary is a great tragic figure in history, and the film would have been much more interesting without involving Elizabeth.

Imagine a similar movie about the Kingdom of Zimbabwe between about 1220 and 1450 a.d. being made and there being European and Asian nobles in positions of power or as members of the court, etc. The backlash would be overwhelming and those in charge of the movie and even the actors would be called racist, bigoted, ignorant, etc and there would be endless whining about it being "cultural appropriation" as well. Oh, the hypocrisy.

Looks like a historical disaster. They never met. Mery had no interest in the English crown. She was struggling to preserve the Scottish crown and had asked Elizabeth for help.

Another historical drama that will probably be painfully inaccurate. For example, Mary and Elizabeth meeting and conversing privately... never happened. AND Mary was not the heir to the throne of England (although she wished she was) but woefully managed her own throne which brought on the majority of her troubles.
