Tolkien Summary

Explore the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

I hope they don't downplay his religious and political attitudes, but they probably will.

If this film doesn't include CS Lewis, their debate over allegory, and the religious themes in their writings, it'll be a failure no matter how much money it makes.

5 bucks says they barely mention the fact that Tolkien was super Catholic.

Lord of the Rings > Game of thrones. Tolkien is the creator of all modern fantasy that we know today.

Tolkien died 14 years before I was even born and yet I don't know any author that has influenced me more.
Carl Sagan was right, time machines already exist. We call them "books".

I really hope they show his life as a philologist (now known as a linguist), because that was a huge part of his life and he is renowned in the linguistic world as the grandfather of conlangs.

The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.

If you are one of those people who has seen the Peter Jackson movies, but read none of the books, I recommend reading the Silmarillion first, and then reading the LOTR. You really understand what is going on, and the motivations of Aragorn better.
The Silmarillion is basically the lore of Middle Earth.

"Drei den Elbenkönigen hoch im Licht,
Sieben den Zwergen in ihren Hallen aus Stein,
Den Sterblichen, ewig dem Tode verfallen, neun.
Einer dem Dunklen Herrn auf dunklem Thron.
Ein Ring, sie zu knechten, sie alle zu finden,
Ins Dunkel zu treiben und ewig zu binden
Im Lande Mordor, wo die Schatten drohn."

Professor Tolkien is one of my favourite authors. One of the many reasons I became a teacher. I hope this movie delivers.
