Tolkien Summary

England, early 20th century. The future writer and philologist John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) and three of his schoolmates create a strong bond between them as they share the same passion for literature and art, a true fellowship that strengthens as they grow up, but the outbreak of World War I threatens to shatter it.

I hope they don't downplay his religious and political attitudes, but they probably will.

Lord of the Rings > Game of thrones. Tolkien is the creator of all modern fantasy that we know today.

Tinúviel was dancing there. To music of a pipe unseen, and light of stars was in her hair, and in her raiment glimmering.

Tolkien died 14 years before I was even born and yet I don't know any author that has influenced me more.
Carl Sagan was right, time machines already exist. We call them "books".

Tolkien was a Catholic. I wonder if there will be one sentence in the film about it...

5 bucks says they barely mention the fact that Tolkien was super Catholic.

If this film doesn't include CS Lewis, their debate over allegory, and the religious themes in their writings, it'll be a failure no matter how much money it makes.

I really hope they show his life as a philologist (now known as a linguist), because that was a huge part of his life and he is renowned in the linguistic world as the grandfather of conlangs.

Notice how the explosion on the battlefield looks like the shadow of Smaug and his hellfire.

If you are one of those people who has seen the Peter Jackson movies, but read none of the books, I recommend reading the Silmarillion first, and then reading the LOTR. You really understand what is going on, and the motivations of Aragorn better.
The Silmarillion is basically the lore of Middle Earth.

Tolkien: My grim, morose experiences in life and the fictional mythos I created are separate and I insist you treat them as such
Hollywood: Okay lol but what if no? XD

"Tolkien" was originally to be one movie but it will be a trilogy:
1)"The Fellowship of the Signal Corps"
2)"The Two Towering Authors" (Tolkien and Lewis)
3)"The Return of the Profits" (Filmed in New Zealand)
