Every time I watch any Miyazaki films or trailers, I always get shudders of amazement. Every one of his movies are just masterpieces of fluent animation. I don't compare this to any anime or anime movies out there. Miyazaki's movies are far superior in my opinion.

After watching My Neighbor Totoro countless times on VHS as a kid and loving it, I now love it in a different way. I can't watch it without tearing up now, because it perfectly captures the imaginative, wondrous feeling of being a kid. It makes you yearn for life to be that simple and for everyday things to seem that extraordinary again. There are plenty of things that make me feel nostalgic, but nothing comes close to My Neighbor Totoro.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten about this movie when my cousin put it on for me and he told me I was going to LOVE it. I didn't believe him at first and it had been a really long time since I watched it. But the more I watched, I finally realized I used to watch it ALL THE TIME!!! I nearly crapped my pants, because it was a piece of childhood that I had completely forgotten. I just couldn't believe I was watching it again!

Omg. I've finally found this. I've been trying to find this forever but couldn't remember the name exactly. I need to buy this. My friend introduced me to it when I was a kid and I loved it. I need to watch it again. I've been re-watching all the movies from my childhood. Such nostalgia. Makes me feel like a kid again. <3

Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement in September this year. And assured everyone that he's "quite serious" this time. ;-) His last feature-length film will be "The Wind Rises", which was released in July this year.

I think I've seen only three Miyazaki films so far: Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Perhaps another that I have forgotten. Shockingly I haven't watched My Neighbour Totoro yet (made in 1988, one of its characters is featured on the Studio Ghibli logo), despite the DVD sitting on my shelf for quite some time! (It was a gift from L, for my 30th, thanks!) I have enjoyed anticipating watching it all this time, at least. :-D And I'll fix it soon: next home movie night!

Extraordinary animation of Hayao Miyazaki. Among other adjectives accompanied by timely exclamation points can list: magic, tender, deep, fun, painful, contagious, provocative, beautiful ...

It is amazing how in Tororo are even more evident the unique qualities that only genius artists can achieve. Here the magic is deeply linked to the forces of nature, and everything that fascinates can also at the same time scare.

Besides the unique look (in its simplicity) and intense charisma (especially the Tororo own and younger sister Mei), the Ghibli studios once again touch on complex issues like loss and accountability, without sacrificing poetry, and especially unrestrained imagination.

For those who coast cartoons, and art in general, we have a legitimate representative of a flawless and unforgettable work.

Knowing the movie by heart, some of the captions like, "they will face their fears and open their hearts," will feel incredibly misleading because this is a film that is minimalist at best, where the characters aren't facing a lot of conflicts or personal issues.

However, I do commend you for the effort because this would be a tough movie to market for a mainstream audience anyway. It's geared towards of very niche audience in my opinion.

If I had to give notes, just lose the captions telling us the story and focus on the imagery. Let the images speak for themselves. But still keep the Miyazaki captions.
